Hi,
This is my attempt to help in the aftermath of Katrina. I work in the Picayune area and have very dear friends in the area.
The only precondition to this blog is this-respect your fellow bloggers.

I live outside of Picayune near Old Salam on Old Kiln Road. I have my dog at the Picayune Vet. clinic and I am worried sick. I did hear on CNN that downtown Picayune is starting to flood and government officials had to leave? I also heard from a co-worker that there is alot of wind damage. Let me know any info. about picayune, the Vets office and whether or not my dog is ok.

I am trying to find out about the Johnson family at 13 Clear Ridge in Carriere. Any information would be appreciated. Doug is an administrator at a rehab hospital in Covington and his wife Cindy is a nurse down at North Shore Hospital. I'm from Virginia and we can't get any information. We have not heard from them since before the storm.
Hi- I have some dear friends by the last name of Fuqua who live on the Pearl River, and I have no idea how they fared. Could someone with their news let me know how they are?
I have friends living in the Carriere area(off exit 10 on I-59). The last time I was able to contact them was ~ noon CDT. Lot of wind damage in the area. Many trees down and roofs lifted off. No mention af any casualties. I am a physician aligned with Crosby Memorial Hospital. I was out of town on business prior to evacuation orders and have not been able to return. I was able to contact the hospital yesterday. There was significant damage to the hospital due to rain and water leaks. The hospital was to be closed and FEMA was to setup a 'MASH unit' like setup at the armoury.
I'm trying to find out how the people in our old neighborhood have fared and where they may be contacted. They are all located on Clay Road Off Thompson Road.
Carl and Betty Hilton
Merlin and Helen Peterson
Robert and Pat Moore
The Thompson Family
Please Email me if you know any of these people or the fate of this neighborhood Thanks!

Sumrall family now in Houston Tx wants any info on our former friends and church members at FBC in Picayune
I have friends and family staying on Deer Run Road in Pearl River. They have a house with a number of trailer homes and boats pulled up to it, and they generally have a few horses. I have reason to believe that the guys have left on fast rescue boats, planing boats, and probably anything they could put an outboard on, and trying to rescue people as they work at a boat yard together. I just want to know that they are ok:
Lisle Posey and his wife and daughter. Russ Mead, Matt Seal, and others bunkering with them.
Please let me know!

HOORAY! My sister-in-law called me on a satellite phone from the hospital. She only had a minute as they are allowing the employees just minutes to call relatives. They are all ok. All she had time to tell me was that the devastation is horrible. She said one lane of I10 was open enough and they were able to cross over from the La. side and check on their home before going back to work at the hospitals. Their home is badly damaged but standing. Thank goodness.
I currently reside in Michigan and we are desperate to hear from relatives in Slidell/Pearl River/Slidell. If anyone knows anything about any Quirks please let me know. My grandfather was leaving his farm in Picayune to go into town. His name is Dan Quirk. Please let me know if you have any info. Fell free to e-mail me at luvmy2slonegirls@aol.com
Thank you!!
vahokie...good to know about your family. I know Doug too from his time in Picayune. The hospital you mentioned..was it Northshore Regional in Slidell?
More info- Sandra Stockstill and mom Lessie Smith are OK in Huntsville. Jessie Pearson and son Michael are OK too
Dr. Prasad...I am Tammy Croney...I am a nurse - I work part time for SMH and part time for JCAHO...I am out of town now and need information on Hide-away-Lake? We have met before at Crosby. Do you have information on SMH (Slidell Memorial Hospital)
Hi Tammy: The info I am getting on SMH is from another web log. There doesnt seems be bad structural damage. All folks in the hospital are apparantly OK. I have friends in the hospital too....have not heard from them. The info from Hide-away ...second hand talking to other friends etc.,...lot of wind and rain damage....not much in terms of flooding. Power/telephone out. Some folks have been able to contact land lines till late last nite...text messaging also seems to work sporadically
Dr. Prasad,
Thanks a million...let me know if you hear anything else...It is so hard to be away ...
My daughter is in pearl river, at last contact, with my 2 year old grandson....word on the NOLA St Tammany forum is that pearl river is alright...any updates?
Yes, Cindy works at Northshore. She has only been home for a couple of hours since Sunday. I could tell she was exhausted and sounded like she was on the edge of keeping it together. I felt so bad for her. The strain is obviously telling. The damage down there is unbelievable. Doug's facility sustained substantial damage to some portions of the building but the main part of the building for the patients and support areas are intact. He has enough food to feed his patients for 3 days but he needs diesel for his generator soon.
I am looking for Paul or Judy Kelly of Avery St, Slidell LA, or Chris Mitchum in Picayune MS.
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks
James

We are in Lafayette, LA, and family just arrived here today from Picayune. Picayune was hit pretty hard with wind and tornados, but we are not hearing reports of deaths or severe injuries. First Baptist Church of Picayune withstood the storm. Trees down everywhere and windows of shops blown out all down West Canal. Ceasar Road looks like a jungle but it is being cleared out enough for people to get down. Downtown is starting to flood but no word on the extent at this time.
does anyone know if tommy and gina wightman are alive and well?
Information on roads:
I-59 from LA to Hattiesburg definitely open.
Hurricane Katrina
Now that the hurricane itself has subsided, the effects of Katrina are still being felt, and will be for months.

I was wondering if anyone had info on the Treuting family on Horseshoe LN off of Sycamore RD? I heard from them sunday night and they were going to ride out the store and I was wondering if anyone had heard anything at all???
Found this in another blog- have shamelessly copied it-posted there by KBJR-
"Just heard from Mom in Picayune. She says that their house took in some sideways wind through some French doors, so their carpet is done for. There was no damage to a lot of homes in the area of Hidden Hills.
The streets look awful, but they are being cleared. My dad and three other people cleared Cesar road with chainsaws, so that's accessible. There are no, I repeat, NO REPORTS of fatalities in Picayune. The info is sketchy, but that's what they are hearing.
North Hills took minimal damage. My uncle, who lives there, says that a few of his windows blew in, but his home was otherwise unscathed.
Lots of trees on homes in the area I hear, but no serious injuries."
We've located our relatives, Dale Laib and Renee and Todd Carroll and their two children; they are safe with family in Meridian, MS. I have recently heard from my mom who lives in Houston, TX. She has numerous friends in the Picayune/Carriere area and said she was on the phone yesterday from 4-11pm talking to them. Apparently, people in the area are able to walk around the distruction and start clean up. There are lots of downed trees and wind damage but nothing is completely distroyed like some of the news reports make it out to be. One of her friends was able to drive area the Carriere area to check on her home and reported a lot of people out assessing the damage. Nothing major though!! I still haven't heard from my sister in that area...she lives on Shot Mitchell Rd. Anyone with more info please email me or post it here. That's all the info I have right now....

INFORMATION FROM PICAYUNE as of 11:30 AM THURSDAY
this is rachel thompson again. i have talked to tony whitman (my dad) he was waiting in a mile long gas line in hattiesburg ms (he says that there is like 2 places in the burg to get gas) he said that Crosby Hospital is still open and running. the beds on station one and two are all empty but I.C.U. is still running with people that work there sleeping there...including Dr.Haidar. My mom worked last night and they did have 1 admit last night- for what i dunno.
dad went to hideaway lake it's pretty bad...but my aunt's house was virtually untouched in hideaway and they live on West lakeshore on the lake. so chances are your families are o.k. just structural damage.
dad says some ppl are not being too friendly, getting annoyed with situation.
picayune no power no water...but there are various places set up around town to get ice water and military MRES. he said they have one station he knows of set up at claiborne hill. brother got MRE meals there. this is being set up by the great people of SPRINGFIELD MO (yay!) and in collaboration with the great people of Resurrection Life. who already do so much for the Picayune people. They already do a free clinic which I overheard Dr. Presad volunteers for (yay!...if you dont personally know the man that set up this blog...it's a shame cuz he's awesome).
dr. prasad- u were right...inherent good is in everyone...as i have learned from MO and witnessing all of this.
that's all i can remember from the conversation with my dad and yes i scribbled many notes!
godbless and take care. maybe i will have more news from picayune when i speak to my brother...who is on his way to memphis from picayune now....
love
rachel

Looking for info on some homes on Lumpkin Road in Carriere.
My cousin Maureen Perry lives on Lumpkin Road across from the intersection of Crazy Tree Road.
My parents, Richard & Gayle Hoffman live on Lumpkin in the second or third house past my cousin...same side of the street, past a sharp curve to the left. (they're on a corner, but I don't know the address or name of the street).
We all got out but want to know if the houses are still standing and if we can return. We really can't head back until we know what's happening there. We sure can't return to our home in Terrytown.
Thanks for any info.
